Cambridge Rugby Club sign off from tough RFU Championship season with 82-34 defeat to Chinnor
Cambridge signed off from the 2024/25 season with an all too familiar feeling last weekend.
Already certain of finishing bottom in the RFU Championship, Cambridge suffered an 82-34 defeat away at Chinnor.
It was a 13th straight loss for the club, who last tasted victory back on 21 December when they narrowly edged out Ampthill 13-7.
Despite yet another reverse, Cambridge still managed to run in six tries in south Oxfordshire courtesy of Matt Hema, Zachery Nearchou, Kayde Sylvester, Morgan Veness and Ben Brownlie (2).
Speaking to the Jacko Podcast, interim head coach Anthony Allen said after his final game of the helm: “It was difficult at the start. They got the early lead but we stuck at it and got back into it.
“Obviously we didn’t have enough in the tank.
“The boys are out on their feet from the last five weeks. They’ve been working hard to stay fit and stay out on the pitch.
“Fair play to the boys because they worked hard but we didn’t have enough at the end of the day.
“Chinnor are a good outfit and we’ve got to take the learnings from this year into next season for the guys that are staying on and the guys that are leaving, hopefully they can take it to their next clubs.
“We scored six tries but we conceded too many off the back of errors in attack, which is frustrating. That’s been the tale of the season.”
Cambridge finished the season with 21 points after three victories from their 22 outings.
