Police put up a 100m cordon and nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Specialist EOD officers attended and disposed of the items safely, with residents able to return to their properties at about 8pm.

A police spokesperson said: “A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stalking, criminal damage, threats to kill, possession of a firearm and possession of an explosive substance. He remains in custody at Parkside Police Station in Cambridge at this time.”

The force said the area is now safe and investigations continue.
